Another excursion with the medical field

Backing up a little...

Little Sylvia has gone to maybe 1 or 2 appointments where the nurses and doctors have actually left her alone! :) We have had blocked tear ducts (resulted in an ER visit), a UTI (Sent us to Banner Desert for an ultrasound and a voiding cystourethrogram which resulted in Syl being diagnosed with Vesicoureteral reflux and being on antibiotics for the first year of her life), and now x-rays with a possible MRI or CT scan! Not to mention the routine shots, blood drawing, and heel pricks they do. We are becoming very familar with many of the hospitals and labs all around Phoenix. :) Not that we really like it though~

-working on sitting up-

At her 4 month well baby check up, Dr. Nania, Sylvia's pediatrician, was concerned that her head was not where it should be on the growth charts. She sent us to get x-rays just to be sure that the sutures and bones were ok. Well, we finally got those taken last week and got the results on Monday.
The x-rays were somewhat concerning to Dr. Nania. Keeping in mind that the x-rays aren't 100% accurate, 2 of the sutures (Coronal and Lambdoid Suture {see pic}) seem to be growing together too fast. They are appearing to be closer together than they should be which would ultimately affect brain growth and development. We are going to see a neurosurgeon at the Phoenix Children's Hospital on Monday the 23rd. As of now we are told they will probably do a CT scan or MRI to get a better picture to see a little more in detail and give us some more answers on what could or COULD NOT be a problem. We will know more after that appointment.
Sylvia is doing just great right now and is right on track developmental wise. She is happy and healthy and just the silliest little girl! She is always making us laugh and I could sit and hold her all day... if she would let me! :)

Hopefully everything is fine but we will keep everyone updated as we go to our appointments.

Here is some 'medical' information on what they call Craniosynostosis.

  1. As I was looking at little Syl in her bedroom I noticed in the corner by the book shelf there is a yellow ratty looking stuffed animal? Does that happen to be yours, Nicole?? Can't wait to see you all next week and finally meet Syl!
