Oh... The Memories

The last few days I have been pretty busy. Between volunteering in the boys' classrooms, Cole starting basketball practice, cleaning the house for our company, and Daron being on nights and having to work every night since last Sunday and is still scheduled til next Tuesday... there hasn't been much time for me to get MY stuff done.
I guess that is how it is right now. I can handle it. Come Sunday, we will have almost a full house and then on Thursday we will be really full! But we can't wait! We are all so excited to have more family down!

Getting back to my point above... I haven't got a lot of things done that I want to do, but in the mix of all this I have had some pretty good memories... or flashbacks, I guess you could call it.
Last night Cole went to his first basketball practice. He has never played before so it was a little humorous to watch. They warmed up, practiced some basic ball handling, and then came the line drills! Right then and there I fell back into 7th and 8th grade basketball practice. If we weren't running the stairs in the old middle school, we were doing line drills. The slower people ran, the more we did! We hated them! I couldn't believe they had the 6, 7, and 8 year-olds running back and forth, back and forth. It's good for them and of course they weren't pushed hard like we were, but still. All the rest of practice I sat there (in between chasing after Sylvia, the ball thief) and reminisced on how fun sports were and how, way too soon, we will be loading the car up to go cheer Cole on in whatever sports he decides to play.

Today there were some more moments just like that one. I had gone in to volunteer at Legacy this morning. I was sitting there working on a craft for Mrs. Rogers, Cole's teacher, and I heard an alarm. No one else did anything so I didn't think anything of it. Soon another teacher comes in and yells FIRE DRILL! Again, first thing that came to my mind was... "Ahhh I hate these! It's cold out, and I just want to get my work done!" Well, we walked out and away from the buildings, stood there for a few minutes, did our thing, and went back in. It was just a fire drill but it hit me again, at how many things Cole and especially Grant are starting to take part in. I'm still in a tiny tiny bit of disbelief that my baby Grant is in kindergarten. They are growing too fast!
While we are back in the classroom, I heard some students talking about playing Two Square and Around the World. Ahhh... here we go again! Too many flashbacks in one morning! Remember Around the World!?! That was in elementary school!

And if that wasn't enough, I went to Grant's room next. They were working on phonograms and I came in from hanging stuff in the hallway and next thing I know, the kindergartners are playing *Sparkle*! I forgot how much fun that was when we were learning how to spell, but I never remember playing it in Kindergarten, maybe 3rd or 4th grade. Grant was so excited to play and he knew his words! He didn't have to sit down until he got sparkled. He is so smart! I would have never thought Grant would be spelling/reading real words this soon and know them so well... or learn so fast! More milestones for my little babies! It didn't help that when I was leaving I overheard them talking about going to play 'Heads Up 7 Up' at their Christmas party tomorrow. Another favorite!

All these things I did when I was younger... they still do them! You forget about those little things. And every time an old memory came back to me, I was just a little tickled that my kids are doing the exact same things, and they show just as much excitement as I did when I was their age (expect for those dang line drills!) Lots of great, fun memories! I can't really call them my babies anymore nor do they want me too, but as we all know, no matter how old our children are, they are always going to be our little babies!

I love you, my little boys! You make me so happy and always put a smile on our face! Just slow down a little please!! ;)

  1. AAH, sweet memories! I didn't even think they still did most of those things in school. Its funny to think that they still exsist:) FUN, FUN! Yes, agree on the kids slowing down on their growing part! That would be very nice.
