PUMPKINS. PUMPkins, pumpkins - Part II

Since we had never carved pumpkins in AZ before, we were told not to do it too many days before Halloween. So we waited until Friday night and decided that was all we could wait! The boys were excited to pick out designs and to carve away. I always remember carving pumpkins when I was little. We would set at the kitchen table. My dad would cut them open, and Neal and I would dig in! Mom was always there making sure we weren't making too big of mess and showing us how to get it all out! Neal and I would draw the face we wanted Dad to carve into our pumpkin! We were so proud!
So little did I know, this was to become my job! We laid out papers on the kitchen floor and I cut the tops off! I gave the boys each their own job- DE-gut their pumpkin! Simple as it was, I had two weenies on my hands! Grant was complaining about the smell! He had his nose plugged and put his hand in the pumpkin once and said that was enough! He thought he needed to clear the kitchen because he said it smelled so bad. Cole took about 10 minutes to get his hands dirty! So I told them that they could separate the seeds out so we could bake them! Well that didn't work out either! I think it was the feeling of the guts that scared Grant off, but Cole did it- just SUPER slow! I know had Sylvia been awake, she would have been trying to climb in the pumpkin! She loves to be involved in everything!

Well this family time pumpkin carving time turned into Mom's carving time! D helped clear out the rest of the guts, and then Sylvia came down and they all disappeared into the living room leaving me to the hard work! They later came back to eat cookies in front of me tho! ;)

Both Cole and Grant picked out a design for me to carve and they were just a little harder than I thought! It was fun since this was my first time making a picture on a pumpkin!
Final Project was done! I think I did a pretty good job for the very first time!

We are in business! We sat them in our front window on Halloween night! (with a battery operated light thingy of course!) The boys didn't want anything to happen to their pumpkins! Although being only 4 days after carving, they are slowly starting to sink in! uH oH!
